Historic Schadenfreude: Ewing Getting Pinkneyed

23 years ago today, Villanova did the Lord’s work and shellacked John Thompson’s consortium of contempt.   The Wildcats, the eight-seed in the Southeast, skated through the tournament on Gary McLain’s cocaine-fueled back, eventually dispatching Thompson’s scowling bunch in a thrilling 66-64 victory.

So, we salute you, Rollie Massimino and your ragtag group of 19-10 regular season mediocrity.  Your dedication to eradicating the stain of Hoya Paranoia deserves lavish state dinners and minstrels singing your praises.  When you could have chosen to simply be average, you soared above the rest, fighting for justice and truth rather than allowing Ewing and his comrades to destroy public property by cutting down the nets in Lexington, Kentucky.
